Experts and young entrepreneurs attending the GBA Youth Chamber of Commerce Cooperation Summit in Shenzhen proposed on Monday deeper cooperation and communication in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while a series of cooperation memorandums were signed.

The summit welcomed youth entrepreneurs from different cities in the Bay Area who spoke about what further communication and cooperation entailed under the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

During the summit, various cooperation projects were revealed which included establishing Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bases in mainland GBA cities, as well as promoting a series of cooperation plans. So far, eight bases have been built, which will cooperate with the GBA Youth Chamber of Commerce to create an environment for the young generation in Hong Kong and Macao to make innovations, and achieve integrated development.

Also, three universities have signed cooperation agreements with cultural and creative industrial complexes to co-establish institutions for education, research, and production, which aim to provide more innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities for the Greater Bay Area youths.

“The Greater Bay Area provides a broader space for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment development for Hong Kong young people,” said Calvin Tse, chairman and founding director of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs.

“It is an important opportunity and platform for Hong Kong young entrepreneurs and young people to integrate into the nation and achieve better development,” he added.

In September, the central government issued measures to support employment and entrepreneurship among young people from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

The measures, which are intended to increase employment opportunities for Hong Kong and Macao youths and meet the GBA’s needs in terms of industrial development, include broadening employment channels, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhancing youth employability.
