HONG KONG – MTR services on the Kwun Tong Line were disrupted on Sunday morning after platform gates equipment at the Kowloon Bay Station malfunctioned and emitted smoke.   

Train services between Kwun Tong Station and Choi Hung Station were affected after the Automatic Platform Gates equipment malfunctioned at around 6:22 am, the MTR said.

Kowloon Bay Station had to be evacuated while firefighters arrived and used fire extinguishers to put out the fire in the equipment, local media reported.

“Train services on the Kwun Tong Line was disrupted this morning because of a problem with the Automatic Platform Gates equipment at Kowloon Bay Station,”  the MTR said in a statement.

“The service was affected between 6:22 and 8 am. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused,” it added.

As of 8:15 am, the MTR said normal train services were resuming after the equipment malfunction at Kowloon Bay station was resolved.
