Hong Kong snooker player Cheung Ka-wai on Sunday won the special administrative region’s first ever gold medal in the World Games as the city put up its best performance in the tournament so far, winning one gold and four bronzes.

Hong Kong sent 17 athletes to compete in 8 out of 33 events in this year’s tournament.

In a post-match interview, Cheung said he’s proud to represent Hong Kong in the World Games and was pleased with his performance.
The four bronze medalists are Grace Lau Mo-sheung in the Individual Women’s Kata, and three others in the Wushu category — Michelle Yeung in Daoshu, Gunshu All-round Women; Lee Wing-yung in Nanquan, Nandao All-round Women; and Yeung Chung-hei in Taijiquan, Taijijian All-round Men.
Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Hong Kong’s secretary for culture, sports and tourism, congratulated Cheung on his victory.
“Cheung Ka-wai put up his best and demonstrated the demeanor of a great athlete. I’m so glad and proud of his achievement and sincerely congratulate him,” Yeung said.
