HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported one new imported COVID-19 case on Thursday, the 11th consecutive day that the city had no untraceable infection.

The imported case involved a 45-year-old man from Sri Lanka who showed  no symptoms, according to a statement issued by the Centre for Health Protection. The city's tally stood at 11,881.

A total of 33 cases were reported in Hong Kong from June 2 to 15,  including three local cases, one of which was from unknown sources.

The man had tested negative before heading to Macao on Sunday via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The CHP said it will take prudent measures and arrange to have his close contacts brought to a quarantine center. Wah Fu Estate Wah Chun House in Pok Fu Lam, where the man resided, will also be placed under a compulsory testing notice.

The city’s last untraceable case involved a 17-year-old girl who was confirmed to be infected with the Alpha variant on June 5.

The CHP said an inspection of her home showed that a sample taken from the packaging of frozen crocodile spare ribs imported from Thailand was positive for COVID-19.

In a separate statement, the Centre for Food Safety said it had collected 103 samples from crocodile products from the warehouses and retail outlets of the vendor concerned for testing and all results came back negative.

The center believed the packaging of the frozen crocodile spare ribs collected at the patient's residence was contaminated at her home. It has informed the vendor that it may resume selling the product.

By the end of May, over 10,000 samples of food and their packaging were collected. All test results were negative, including those for more than 40 related crocodile products imported from Thailand, according to the center.
