Thousands of people flocked to Cheung Chau, an outlying island of Hong Kong, to join in the fun as the traditional Cheung Chau Bun Festival returned on Friday after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cheung Chau Bun Festival, also known as Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival, is a Taoist event staged annually on the eighth day of the fourth month in the Chinese calendar.

Comprising a variety of activities such as Piu Sik parade with children dressed up as different characters paraded on stilts, lion dances, and the exciting Bun Scrambling Competition, it has attracted tens of thousands of local and overseas visitors to the island every year.

China Daily’s Calvin Ng captured some moments during the festival.
