HONG KONG – Hong Kong athletes Leung Yuk-wing, Vivian Lau and Wong Kwan-hang won a silver medal in the Boccia Mixed BC4 Pairs event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games on Saturday, the third medal for Hong Kong in this year's games.

This is also the second medal for Leung at the Tokyo Games. He won the bronze medal in the Boccia Mixed Individual BC4 event on Wednesday.

At the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo Saturday afternoon, the Hong Kong team lost 2-3 to Slovakia in the final, claiming silver in the event.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor extended her congratulations to the three athletes.

"With rich experience, superb skills and team spirit, the athletes put on excellent performances in the competitions and claim a medal," Lam said in a statement.

She noted that Leung has won six medals for Hong Kong to date in various Paralympics games with distinguished achievements. It is the first medal captured by Lau and Wong at the games.

"Hong Kong people and I are overjoyed and are proud of the achievements of the three athletes," Lam said.

Hong Kong Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui Ying-wai also congratulated the trio on winning the silver medal.

"Leung Yuk-wing, Vivian Lau and Wong Kwan-hang have fully displayed their skills and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. I am graced by their outstanding achievement," Tsui said in a separate statement.

Leung Yuk-wing was a gold medalist in the Boccia Mixed BC4 Pairs event at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. The three athletes won a gold medal in the Mixed BC4 Pairs event at the BISFed 2019 Seoul Boccia Asia-Oceania Regional Championships.
