HONG KONG – An art exhibition of paintings marking the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s milestone events in the past 25 years opened in Hong Kong on Saturday.

The exhibition at the Hong Kong Central Library is part of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the special administrative region.

A total of 116 artworks, selected from about 2,000 candidates, feature significant events in the Greater Bay Area in the past quarter of a century, such as the return of Hong Kong and Macao to the motherland, the visits to Hong Kong by the Chinese mainland aircraft carrier Liaoning and mainland Olympians, the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the central government’s support for Hong Kong in the fight against COVID-19.

The artists used various painting skills, such as traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpturing and watercolor painting, to show the Greater Bay Area’s natural scenery, urban landscape, social development and diversified cultures.

The exhibition was first held at the National Museum of China in Beijing on June 24. After Hong Kong, the artworks will go on display in Macao and Shenzhen.

The event is co-hosted by the authorities and organizations on the mainland and in Hong Kong and Macao, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
