Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, embarked on a four-day inspection tour of the Macao Special Administrative Region on Tuesday. During his visit, he raised expectations for the city to write new chapters in upholding the “one country, two systems” principle with Macao characteristics and making a greater contribution to national rejuvenation. 

Xia made the remarks during his meeting with Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng and other principal officials of the city’s executive, legislative and judicial bodies.

Xia conveyed President Xi Jinping’s care for the Macao compatriots and praised Ho’s administration for its work in the past three years. 

Xia said he hopes that the Macao SAR government will unite and lead all sectors of society to achieve better development on a new journey of a new era. 

To achieve such a goal, Xia emphasized the importance for the city government to double its efforts in implementing the “one country, two systems” principle, safeguarding national security, uniting patriotic forces, and diversifying economic development in the SAR. 

Xia also highlighted the significance of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai. He toured the fledgling special zone’s youth entrepreneurship parks, new residential area projects, and innovation parks and met with local executive committee members. Xia also learned about the progress of infrastructure construction of the region’s ports and bridges and cross-border traditional Chinese medicine cooperation.
