The head of the central government’s liaison office in Hong Kong hopes the city’s delegates to this year’s two sessions can diligently perform their duties to serve Hong Kong’s interests, express local residents’ opinions, and implement the essence of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China when participating in national affairs.

Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, expressed his expectations on Wednesday when meeting the city’s deputies to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), and members of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). This year’s two sessions will kick off on Saturday.

Hong Kong’s two sessions delegates, who are attending on behalf of Hong Kong’s 7 million residents and will participate in national affairs with countrywide representatives, should have a comprehensive understanding of the gist of the Party congress, and should apply their understanding in a concrete manner when they are performing duties as the national delegates

Zheng said the timing of the meetings is of much significance, as the country is moving at full-speed to advance its new path to modernization after the convening of the 20th CPC National Congress.

Lee said Hong Kong national political advisors can serve as a bridge of communication, as they will not only contribute to the advancement of the country, but also listen to the views of members of the public.

The SAR government will further strengthen links with the Hong Kong CPPCC National Committee members and unite different sectors of the community to better implement the "patriots administering Hong Kong" principle, Lee said. He also held a similar meeting with the city's deputies to the 14th NPC on Monday.
