The Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government inked new technology innovation cooperation guidelines with the Science and Technology Innovation Committee of Shenzhen Municipality on Thursday.

The documents were signed at a meeting of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong science and technology innovation cooperation in Shenzhen, co-chaired by Hong Kong Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong, and Zheng Hongbo, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Shenzhen Municipal Committee and who oversees the development of technology, education, data management, and small and medium-sized enterprises in Shenzhen.

The Arrangement on Comprehensively Promoting Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation and its annex will serve as policy guidance and action outlines for future scientific and technological innovation cooperation between the two cities, according to a local media report.

The documents focus on jointly carrying out basic research and technological research, promoting the development of strategic emerging industries and future industries, jointly setting up innovation carriers, undertaking major science and technology projects, and cultivating scientific and technological talents.

The synergistic development of the Qianhai special zone, the Lok Ma Chau Loop and the Northern Metropolis area of Hong Kong, the highly-efficient flow of product elements, the convergence of scientific research rules and mechanisms are also included.
