A unique Qiaopi exhibition opened on Wednesday at the Hong Kong City Hall. Qiaopi, which means letters with money in Chinese, is a combination of letters, reports, account books, and remittance receipts originating from communications between Chinese emigrants overseas and their families in China.

It records firsthand the life and activities of overseas Chinese, as well as the historical and cultural development of their residing countries during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Aimed to promote Chinese civilization and exchanges between the eastern Guangdong city of Shantou and Hong Kong, the Qiaopi exhibition is featuring hundreds of precious exhibits, including Qiaopi, photos and artworks, reliving Shantou emigrants’ unwavering patriotism.

The event is organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Shantou Community Organizations and will run through May 30.
