Counting of votes is going on after the seventh-term Legislative Council election in Hong Kong on Dec 19, 2021. (CALVIN NG /CHINA DAILY)

Editor’s notes: Hong Kong saw a total of 90 lawmakers-elect returned by registered voters during Sunday’s election, the first Legislative Council election held under the improved electoral system. They come from various backgrounds, hold different expertise and professional experiences. This is what some of them said after winning the historic poll.

1. Duncan Chiu Tat-kun, lawmaker-elect for the Technology and Innovation functional constituency

Hong Kong is building itself into an international center for innovation and technology. Now is a crucial time for this task given by the country. As a legislator, my priority after assuming office is to unite other legislators to promote I&T development.

2. Chu Kwok-keung, lawmaker-elect for the Education functional constituency

I will uphold the principles of the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers which are to unite and serve educators, listen and bring frontline teachers’ voices to the council.

3. Steven Ho Chun-yin, lawmaker-elect for the Agriculture and Fisheries functional constituency

This election was a fair competition on candidates’ ideas and capabilities after the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong, the revamp of the electoral system and the implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong”.

In the coming four years, I will work with the government to resolve land issues and issues that relate to land development.

4. Chan Yung, lawmaker-elect from the functional constituency: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People’s Congress, HKSAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and representatives of relevant national organizations

I will work with other groups and members of national organizations to make joint efforts in solving issues relating to people’s basic needs, such as medical, housing, food and transportation.

5. Starry Lee Wai-king, lawmaker-elect for Kowloon Central

We understand that residents hold high expectations over newly elected legislators in this term. We know that we will shoulder heavy responsibilities to push the government to solve deep-rooted social issues. I will do my best to unite residents to propel the government to reform and change in moving forward.

6. Judy Chan Ka-pui, lawmaker-elect from the Election Committee constituency

I am happy to be elected. I appreciate those who voted for me. I was encouraged a lot by many of my colleagues and the residents during my campaign. I will drive the government to address the needs of residents and continue my service to the public.

7. Junius Ho Kwan-yiu, lawmaker-elect from the Election Committee constituency

The support of my friends, the encouragement of the public and the choice of the committee are much appreciated! I will spare no efforts to improve people’s lives and strive for a better future for Hong Kong.
