HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government on Tuesday urged South Korea to withdraw an “unreasonable” flight restriction that requires passenger flights from Hong Kong to land only at Incheon International Airport.

In a statement, the HKSAR government said it was “highly concerned” about the flight restriction, which was imposed on Tuesday and will last until the end of next month, and will follow it up to minimize the impact on Hong Kong travelers.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau has reminded local airlines to inform affected travelers of the latest flight arrangements as soon as possible, and to provide them with necessary support and assistance

"The HKSAR government considers the restriction, which targets flights departing from Hong Kong, unreasonable,” a government spokesman was quoted as saying in the statement.

“The HKSAR government has written to the Korean authority and liaised with the Consulate General of Korea in Hong Kong to express our grave concern and strongly request the authority to withdraw the restriction concerned," he added.
