HONG KONG – The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said it will fully support and facilitate countermeasures and sanctions announced by the central authorities in response to US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, a spokesman for the HKSAR government reiterated that the SAR government firmly opposes any external forces interfering in the internal affairs of China.

(The HKSAR government) will fully support and facilitate all necessary measures by the Central Government to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"(The HKSAR government) will fully support and facilitate all necessary measures by the Central Government to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement reads.

The spokesman added that the HKSAR government will closely monitor developments and keep in contact with the relevant authorities of the central government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday afternoon eight countermeasures in response to the visit to Taiwan by Pelosi, and adopted sanctions on her.
