HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Observatory issued a Cold Weather Warning on Sunday afternoon as temperatures were expected to drop to as low as 7 degrees Celsius in some areas in the New Territories on Monday morning.
In an advisory, the HKO said it issued the Cold Weather Warning at 4:20 pm, adding that cold weather was expected in Hong Kong in the next couple of days.
According to the HKO website, the mercury in Ta Kwu Ling could fall to 7 C, 8 C in Shek Kong, and 9 C in Sheung Shui in the New Territories
“The minimum temperatures in the urban areas for tomorrow will be around 11 degrees. It will be a few degrees lower in the northern part of the New Territories and on high ground,” the Observatory said.

According to the HKO website, the mercury in Ta Kwu Ling could fall to 7 C, 8 C in Shek Kong, and 9 C in Sheung Shui in the New Territories.
“People are advised to put on warm clothes and ensure adequate indoor ventilation. If you know of elderly persons or persons with chronic medical conditions staying alone, please call or visit them occasionally to check if they need any assistance,” the HKO said.
In a separate statement, the Centre for Health Protection reminded the public, particularly the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, to adopt appropriate measures to protect their health.
A spokesman for the CHP said that cold weather can easily trigger or exacerbate diseases, especially among the elderly and persons suffering from heart disease, respiratory illness or other chronic illnesses.

"Elderly people have less insulating fat beneath their skin to keep them warm and their body temperature control mechanism may be weaker. Their body may not be able to appropriately respond to the cold weather," the spokesman was quoted as saying in the statement.
