HONG KONG – Hong Kong reported eight new imported COVID-91 infections on Sunday as health authorities investigated the case of a 19-year-old woman from the city who tested positive for the virus after arriving in the United Kingdom. 

In a statement issued on Sunday afternoon, the Centre for Health Protection said the eight new patients included four women from the Philippines, a 49-year-old man from the Czech Republic, a 64-year-old man from the US, a 28-year-old man from Spain, and a 13-year-old boy from Maldives who was the only one unvaccinated in the group.

And except for one of the women from the Philippines, all of the patients showed no symptoms of COVID-19, the CHP said, adding that the city’s tally stood at 12,193. 

The CHP also said that the woman who was confirmed positive in the UK lived  in Suet Fung House, Fung Tak Estate, Diamond Hill.

The patient tested negative for the virus two days before she left the city on Sept 16, but a specimen collected from her in the UK on September 19 turned out positive. She had received two shots of the Comirnaty vaccine while in Hong Kong on April 30 and May 21.

According to the CHP's preliminary investigation, the patient worked at 24/F, Wing On House, 71 Des Voeux Road, Central and last went to work on Sept 10. 

She had also joined a camping activity from Sept 5 to 6 at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups – Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp in Tai Mong Tsai, Sai Kung. 

Epidemiological investigation and contact tracing of the case is continuing and the places where she resided and those she visited will be included in a compulsory testing notice, the CHP said.

A total of 43 cases were reported in Hong Kong from Sept 12 to 25, all of them imported, the CHP added.
