HONG KONG – Hong Kong’s health authorities reported five new COVID-19 infections on Friday, bringing the overall tally in the financial hub to 11,138.

All the new cases were imported, said the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health. They involved two men and a woman from Switzerland, a woman from the Philippines and another from Russia. All of them, aged between 21 and 49, remained asymptomatic.

They have all been fully vaccinated, the CHP said.

A total of 61 cases have been reported between Aug 27 and Sept 9, all of them imported, the CHP added.

Meanwhile, the CHP was notified of two confirmed cases in the UK on Thursday, which involved two men aged 16 and 51, respectively.

The 16-year-old man lived at Block 19, Baguio Villa, 550 Victoria Road, Pok Fu Lam. He tested negative on Aug 23 in Hong Kong and departed the city on Aug 26 for the UK via flight CX255.

His specimen collected on Sept 6 in the UK tested positive for COVID-19 and he remained asymptomatic.

He had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine on March 20 and April 10 in Hong, the CHP said.

The 51-year-old man lived at Block 3, Kent Court, 137 Boundary Street, Kowloon and tested negative on Aug 30 in Hong Kong. He departed the city on Sept 1 for the UK via flight CX255.

He developed symptoms on Sept 3 and his specimen collected on the same day in the UK tested positive for COVID-19.

The CHP said he had received two doses of the BioNTech shot on April 27 and May 20 in Hong Kong.

As a prudent measure, the buildings where they resided in Hong Kong during the incubation period have been included in a compulsory testing notice, the CHP said.

“Specified persons who had been present at the relevant venues at specified periods need to undergo compulsory testing on or before Sept 11,” the center added.

The number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in Hong Kong crossed the 8 million mark on Thursday, with some 4.29 million people having received at least one shot of the vaccine.
