HONG KONG – Hong Kong Customs Officers have seized suspected smuggled electronic products and parts worth an estimated street value of HK$30 million at the Man Kam To Control Point.

On Monday, Customs Officers intercepted an outgoing container truck at the control point and found about 510,000 suspected smuggled electronic products and parts concealed behind a batch of properly declared goods inside the container, according to a government press release.

The goods included some 2,000 electronic products such as mobile phones, notebook computers and dash cams, which are worth HK$2 million.

There were also about 508,000 electronic parts worth HK$28 million, including computer RAM units, computer hard disks, and central processing units.

A 61-year-old male truck driver was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo can at most be fined HK$2 million and put behind bars for seven years.
