HONG KONG – A charred body was found after a massive fire broke out at a warehouse in Kwan Tei North Village in Fanling on Wednesday morning.

Police said they believed the deceased was a male staff of the warehouse, adding that an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched

Police believed the deceased was a male staff of the warehouse, said chief police inspector Fan Wai-ho at a press briefing. They have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and the man's identity.

The blaze was reported at 5:14 am, before it was upgraded to No 3 alarm at 6:50 am. The fire was surrounded at 10 am and put under control at 1 pm, according to the Fire Services Department.

Chan King-keung, commander of Yuen Long Fire Station, said the warehouse was used by a trade company to store seafood products and dried food. 

"The area of the fire was large and the structure posed a risk of collapsing, hindering effects to put out the fire," Chan said.

Firemen used four jets and mobilized four breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze.

One person was injured and was sent to North District Hospital for treatment, according to Chan.
