HONG KONG – Around 304,100 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, with about 213,300 receiving their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine and about 90,800 their first dose of the BioNTech jab, the Hong Kong government said in a statement issued late Friday.

Around 27,500 people were inoculated under the vaccination program on Friday alone, with around 11,800 of them receiving the Sinovac vaccine and around 15,700 the BioNTech one.

With the loosening of restrictions on vaccinations, more than 70 percent of the population is now eligible and Hong Kong is one of the first places to expand access to such a wide age group

The overall percentage of people who have received the Sinovac and BioNTech vaccine were 84 percent and 96 percent, respectively, the government said.

Hong Kong began its vaccine drive at the end of February and expanded eligibility for vaccinations to all adults ages 30 and over on Tuesday.

With the loosening of restrictions on vaccinations, more than 70 percent of the population is now eligible and Hong Kong is one of the first places to expand access to such a wide age group. People can book online for their first and second vaccination slots at community centers and private clinics.
