HONG KONG – Two massive fires have broken out in Kwai Chung and Sai Kung respectively, leaving one woman injured.

A fire broke out at Container Terminal 1 in Kwai Chung at around 1:30 am Thursday, according to the Fire Services Department. It was upgraded to No 3 alarm at 1:41 am and put under control at 4:30 am, the department said in a statement.

Firemen had used four jets and mobilized four breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The RTHK reported that the fire broke out in containers that had been converted into a two-story office.

Two people were self-evacuated to safety. Among them, a woman sustained minor arm injuries. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze, said a senior fire official at the scene.

Another fire broke out at a garage on Luk Mei Tsuen Road in Sai Kung at around 7:20 pm Wednesday. It was upgraded to No 3 alarm around an hour later and was largely put out at around 1 am Thursday.

“About 20 people were self-evacuated to places of safety. No casualties have been reported,” the Fire Services Department said in a separate statement.
